History, Mission & Approach

Leadership Coaching, Inc. was founded by John Engels in 1996, offering customized relationship teaching, leadership coaching and personal development to presidents of small and mid-size businesses. (see John Engels’ bio) In 1997, John developed the core curriculum for the Advanced Leadership Course, launching what has become one of the world’s only learning formats combining family systems theory, evolutionary biology and organizational leadership. The popularity of the course is based on a compelling set of ideas, strategies and skills, grounded in cutting-edge scientific research, and delivered in a hard-hitting, practical format. This Advanced Leadership Course challenges leaders to build maturity and responsibility in their organizations and families, beginning with themselves.  

Leadership Coaching, Inc. offers a full range of individual coaching, management team development and specialized workshops for leaders spanning all sectors of society, and all industries ranging from family-run enterprises to globally linked corporations.

Our approach is based on the well-developed ideas of Dr. Murray Bowen, M.D., a psychiatry pioneer who was the key formulator of family systems theory. Bowen used the revolutionary ideas of field biologists, anthropologists, neuroscientists, and endocrinologists, along with his own research, to formulate more accurate descriptions of human relationship functioning. Leadership Coaching, Inc. draws on Dr. Bowen’s insights to furnish leaders with dramatically-effective relationship strategies and skills.
